About Us
The success of the Humphreys Dance Schools Program lies in its ability to evolve with students while remaining grounded in proven teaching practice. Dance styles and music is carefully selected to reflect current trends and popular culture, including Hip Hop, Latin American, Ballroom, Street Latin, party dances and contemporary social dance styles - ensuring relevance, engagement and enjoyment for every group.
A key focus of the program is helping students develop the social skills needed to interact respectfully and confidently with others. In today's world, opportunities for positive, face-to-face social learning are limited. Our program addresses this in a relaxed, inclusive and encouraging way, while teaching valuable life skills that extend well beyond the dance floor.
Our Point of Difference

Our Story
Established in 1967
The Humphreys Dance Studio began with a simple but powerful mission: to bring the elegance and discipline of ballroom dance to the wider community. Starting as a small local initiative, it quickly founded its reputation on professional excellence and a welcoming environment for all ages.
A Growing Community Legacy
By the 1980s, the studio expanded into the Pamela Humphreys Schools Dance Program, partnering with educational institutions across Western Australia. This move transformed dance from a private studio activity into a vital social learning tool for thousands of students each year.
Modern Milestones & Future Vision
Today, with over 60 years of heritage and having passed through three generations of the Humphrey family, we continue to innovate. Our program now incorporates modern styles like Hip Hop and Street Latin, ensuring we stay relevant for today's students while maintaining our core values of respect and confidence.
Pamela Humphreys-Martin OAM
Our Founder
Born in Perth, WA, Pamela Humphreys' journey in dance began at age 12 with ballet and piano lessons, quickly expanding to Ballroom Dance. Her exceptional talent and dedication saw her progress from amateur to professional status, culminating in winning State, Interstate and International titles.
With a career spanning over 50 years, Pamela has achieved remarkable success as a dancer, coach and adjudicator. She has toured nationally and internationally, performing, competing, coaching and judging at the highest levels. A standout moment in her career was performing an exhibition number on television’s Showcase 66, accompanied by a live orchestra playing the Warsaw Concerto.
Pamela is a member of the World Dance Council, fully qualified in both Ballroom (Standard) and Latin American and served as an international adjudicator and coach. She is also an accredited member of Dance Sport Australia and Dance Sport WA.

Her greatest legacy however is the Pamela Humphreys Schools Dance Program, which she founded and led for over five decades. Through this program, Pamela has brought her passion and expertise to thousands of school children in more than 100 schools across Western Australia, helping students develop confidence, creativity, social skills and a lifelong love of dance. The program continues to evolve, staying relevant to modern students and aligning with contemporary social initiatives.

In recognition of her lifelong contribution to dance, Pamela was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2003, honouring her dedication, innovation and impact on the dance community.

Pamela retired at the end of June 2020 and passed the business on to her daughters, Debbie-Anne and Melanie to continue the legacy, now named Humphreys Dance Schools Program. Pamela takes great pride in seeing her family carry on what she built, with second, third and already fourth-generation family members embracing the art of dance.
